Revoking College Admissions Offers

Last week, the Los Angeles Times reported that the University of California, Irvine, recently rescinded 500 offers of admission, just two months before the Fall semester is due to begin. The university said that it revoked the offers because the students "had not met the conditions of their admission contracts", e.g. they didn’t submit all necessary forms or completed forms required for enrollment in a timely manner. A university spokesman denied that there was any relationship between the revocations and a miscalculation of around 800 more freshmen attending this year than last year. According to InsideHigherEd.com, admission revocations are normal — all colleges predict their annual admissions and some colleges may have seen substantial changes in application and enrollment patterns this year due to the new earlier availability of FAFSA and recent changes in the SAT and the ACT.
